Transformative Currents: Where Art Meets Ocean Action at Crystal Cove
09.18.24
Crystal Cove Conservancy is excited to announce the upcoming exhibition, Transformative Currents: Art and Action in the Pacific Ocean, in partnership with Getty's PST ART: Art & Science Collide. Hosted in Crystal Cove’s historic Cottage #46, this exhibition will feature the multimedia installation Mare Liberum, Reimagined (2024) by artists Maja Godlewska and Marek Ranis, on display from September 21, 2024, through January 19, 2025.
Mare Liberum, Reimagined blends suspended elements with virtual reality, inviting visitors to navigate a kelp forest maze made of mesh screen paintings, enhanced by VR films. The installation extends to the exterior porch, overlooking the Pacific.
Transformative Currents explores the environmental and cultural impacts on the Pacific Ocean, using art to inspire ecological awareness and change. The exhibition features works by 21 contemporary artists, all focused on the theme of ocean currents, illustrating the interconnectedness of species, ecosystems, and the challenges posed by climate change and pollution.
As part of PST ART, Crystal Cove Conservancy is one of two satellite venues, alongside the Orange County Museum of Art. The exhibition is curated by Cassandra Coblentz, with assistant curators Aaron Katzeman and Ziying Duan.

Empowering People to Change the World at the 4th Annual Mother Earth Market
09.18.24
Anaheim’s historic Packing District, in collaboration with Eco Now, is set to host the fourth annual “Mother Earth Market” (MEM) on Sunday, September 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Farmers Park, 412 S. Anaheim Blvd, Anaheim. This full-day event, dedicated to mindfulness and sustainability, will take place along the park’s scenic boardwalk and green space.
MEM serves as a platform to raise awareness, provide resources, and inspire a growing community of individuals who are increasingly mindful of their environmental impact. "We need to shift the focus from blaming corporations and governments to empowering ourselves to make a difference," says Thea Pauly, founder of Anaheim’s first zero-waste shop, Eco Now.
Highlighting the urgency, CalRecycle reports that each year, California generates waste equivalent to 45 times the weight of the Golden Gate Bridge, uses enough white office paper to consume 2.45 million trees, and discards enough food waste to equal 7.27 billion meals in landfills.
The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a yoga flow and sound bath session led by esteemed yogi Tracy Bui. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees can explore a diverse eco-marketplace featuring sustainable products and activities. Visitors who bring small sealed containers can enjoy free samples of shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste at the Eco Now Upcycle Booth, while supplies last. Kids can get creative at an upcycled crafting station hosted by Child Creativity Lab, which will also be accepting donations of soda can tops, plastic bottle caps, corks, and Chobani yogurt cups for their STEAM program.
Starting at noon, Eco Now will hold a popular clothing swap, and at 1:30 p.m., Tom Pauly will offer a free compost workshop, sharing valuable insights on worm composting.
This year’s MEM logo, illustrated by artist Sara Haase, echoes the spirit of empowerment with the message, “We Can Do It!” Thea Pauly emphasizes, "As consumers, we have the power to change the world."
